ELLESMERE SHOW
IMPROVEMENT TO GROUND AUTHORISED RETIREMENT OF SECRETARY Mr H. G. Chamberlain, president, was in the chair at a meeting of the general committee of the Ellesmere Agricultural and Pastoral Association, held at Leeston on Thursday. Two new members of the committee, Messrs E. J, Chatterton and H. E. Chamberlain, were welcomed. The South Island Pig Breeders’ Association recommended judges for the show and said that it would give its medallions to the Ellesmere Association for this year’s show. They would be for the supreme champions—Large White, Berkshire, Tamworth, and Large Black. The offer was accepted with thanks. , , , The Ryeland Sheep Society sent £.l Is for a special for Ryeland ram. It was decided to deposit £l7O m the bank on account of the Osborne bequest for the better-farming competition. and the secretary and treasurer were appointed trustees. A suggestion by Mr W. O. Rennie that in all natural wool classes m the sheep section the hoggets must be in full wool condition was referred to the sheep committee for consideration. Sub-committees for the year were elected. Authority was given the ground committee to have improvements made at the show ground w’thin the money available. £BO to £IOO. Mr H. Neave tendered his resignation as secretary to the association after 21 years’ service. He referred to his pleasant associations with the successive presidents, committees, and other officials, and wished the association continued success. Warm tributes to the manner in which Mr Neave had performed his duties end to the enthusiasm he had always shown for the welfare of the association were paid by the president and Messrs A.. J. Inwood. W. O. Rennie. T. A. Stenhens. John Brooks, H. Schnelle, and R. T. McMillaii. The resignation was accepted with regret and Mr Neave was elected an honorary life member. The committee unanimously decided to appoint Mr J. T. B. Purser to the position. He has been assistant secretary for several years.
