WOMEN’S DIVISION OF FARMERS’ UNION

♦ AMBERLEY BRANCH The monthly meeting of the Amberley branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held in the Town Hall. Amberley, with 'Mrs I. Croft presiding. Contributions were voted for the King George V Memorial Fund, and also for the community hall to be built at Rangiora. It was decided to hold the annual birthday party next month. In the afternoon members of visiting branches and friends will be entertained. A dance will be held in the evening. During the afternoon members discussed arrangements for the North Canterbury bay at the forthcoming Winter Show. Afternoon tea was served. A competition for a bowl of chrysanthemums resulted in a tie between Mrs Milner and Miss McNaught. STYX The monthly meeting of the Styx branch of the Women’s Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union was held recently. Mrs R. Jones presided. A very interesting demonstration on chair-making from cheese crates by Mrs Jones, and stools from tins by Mrs Low, then followed. The competitions for the afternoon were well responded to the winners being as follows: Eggless cake, Mrs Stoddart 1. Mrs McJarrow 2; tea cosy. Mrs L. Mahar 1. Mrs Jones 2; single bloom, Mrs C. Smith 1; tumbler flowers, Mrs Jerard 1. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Cory, Cook, and Carson. DORIE The Dorie Women’s Institute held its fifth birthday party, with Mrs W. Greig presiding. The birthday cake, which was giv n by Mrs Alexander and iced by Mrs McKie was decorated with a crown and five flags. The competitions resulted: —Three date scones: Miss Carruthers 1, Miss Gardiner 2, Mrs Alexand'-- 3. Prettiest cup and saucer: Miss Carruthers 1, Mrs Boyce 2, Mrs W. Harrison 3. The annual chrysanthemum show was held. Mrs and Miss Lambie were the judges. Champion .bloom went to Miss Carruthers, The prize-winners for most points during the last halfyear were Mrs W. Harrison, Miss Gallagher, and Miss Betty Sargent. The hostesses were Mrs McKie and Mrs Alexander.
