«GREEN LIGHT” TO-MORROW

A fast-moving drama set in primitive surroundings “Ood’s Country and the Woman” will conclude a season at the Avon Theatre to-day. Commencing to-morrow, a £. £ lent drama, “Green Light, which has as its principal stars, Eirol Flynn, Walter Abel, Anita Louise, and Mar garet Lindsay, will be shown at the Avon Theatre. Errol Flynn » ge man of the moment of the screen, and his acting in films the calibre of “The Charge of the Light Brigade has won him a place in the front rank of Hollywood fame. Anita Louise will also be remem bered for her exceptionally fine acting with Fredric March in “Anthony Adverse.” Also included in the cast is Sir Cedric Hardwicke, who is known to all theatre-goers as one of Great Britain’s greatest stars. The story for “Green Light was adapted from the book written by Lloyd C. Douglas, of the same name. This author also wrote “Magnificent Obsession,” which was the theme of one of the outstanding productions ot last year. CRYSTAL PALACE DOUBLE-FEATURE BILL A startling exposure of abuses in the paroling of dangerous gangsters from United States prisons is told in an exciting storv, “Don’t Turn Em Loose,” the 'chief film of a doublefeature bill at the Crystal Palace. The second attraction is an unusual and amusing story of newspaper life in Chicago. “Without Orders” To-morrow Commencing to-morrow, a very good film, “Without -Orders,” will be shown at the Crystal Palace Theatre. The story of the film is adapted from a book by Peter B. Kyne, an author renowned for his stories of adventure. The film, which was produced by RKO-Radio, is a romantic thriller of the air, and has met with outstanding success in other centres of New Zealand. The principal parts are taken by Sally Eilers and Robert Armstrong. The film presents, in an original tale, the life of aviators in the United States on the big commercial air liners, and contains some fine scenes of mountain flying. Box plans are now open at the D.I.C. MAYFAIR “PEPPER” AND CORONATIONFILM Jane Withers’s latest picture, “Pepper,” scores a distinct hit at the Mayfair Theatre, where it heads a programme made up of very popular subjects. A film which appeals to young and old alike, “Pepper” is a delightful production, faultlessly produced and cleverly interpreted by this talented child actress, who shares the honours with Slim Summerville and Irvin S. Cobb.' Among thte supporting subjects is a film of the Coronation, which has just arrived by air-mail. STATE “GIRL IN A MILLION” AND CORONATION FILM Films of the Coronation of King George VI carried by air in record time from London are a feature of the programme at the State Theatre this week. The film includes scenes inside Westminster Abbey. The current attraction at the State is “Girl in a Million,” starring the world-famous Sonja Henie, the former world ice-skating champion. Commencing its fifth week to-morrow, “Girl in a Million” makes outstanding entertainment. Sonja Henie does not sacrifice her skating for her acting, she combines them m a manner which makes her outstanding even amongst Hollywood’s greatest stars. ThiS is her first appearance in a film, but besides showing" the beautiful grace which won her fame in skating championships, she also proves herself to be a very fine little actress. OTHER THEATRES Joan Crawford and Robert Taylor are starred in “The Gorgeous Hussy.” which is showing this week at the Regent Theatre. Franchot Tone and Lionel Barrymore are also in the film. “California Mail,” starring Dick Foran, and “Smart Blonde,” starring Glenda Farrell and Barton Maclane, comprise the double-feature programme at the Plaza. Noah Beery, jun., Barbara Read, and Hobart Cavanaugh are the principal stars of “The Mighty Treve,” which, with “Heir to Trouble," starring Ken Maynard, is showing at the Liberty Theatre. “Public Hero No. 1,” starring Chester Morris and Lionel Barrymore, and “Accent on Youth,” starring Herbert Marshall and Sylvia Sidney, are at the Grand Theatre. Deanna Durbin is the star of “Three Smart Girls," which is now showing ai the Tivoli Theatre. Binnie Barnes and Alice Brady are the supporting players. “Tarzan Escapes” is the film which is the attraction at the Majestic Theatre. The stars are Johnny Weismuller, Maureen O’Sullivan, and Benita Hume.
