The "Daily Telegraph" states that the Royal and Ancient Club of St. Andrews will shortly ban the heavy niblick, which has been nicknamed "sand wedge." "blaster." or "howitzer." -which, v*as' invented, in. America, and which is popular with all golfers because it enables extraordinary recoveries from bunkers and the rough without much skill or effortIt is understood that the Royal and Ancient Club is aiming at preventing "buying a shot over the counter.** It will specify any club illegal which has a sole thicker than half an inch or if the front edge is not flush with the ground. ■ HAREWOOD CLUB Conditions were good for-"a stroke haa» dicap played at Harewood over the week-end-Best cards were:—W.
