AUSTRALIAN BRIDGE PLAYERS

SUPERIORITY OVER NEW ZEALANDERS LIKELIHOOD OF VISIT TO DOMINION Dr. J. P. McQuilkin. a member of the Dominion bridge team which visited Australia, attributes the superiority of the Australian bridge players over the New Zealanders to these two factors: (a) Australian bridge players are better organised, (b) Regular inter-state matches are arranged. "Although the New Zealanders were defeated in every match, they put up a very creditable performance," Dr. McQuilkin said yesterday. "Their weakness was in defence, and they made costly mistakes in the face of faultless opposition." Dr. McQuilkin said that Victorian players were keen to visit New Zealand, and that in all probability the New Zealand Bridge Federation would send them an invitation. Outstanding players against the New Zealanders. he added, were V. Champion, in Melbourne, and Frank Cayley. in Sydney.
