ATHLETICS
TOUR BY TEAM FROM JAPAN
QUESTION OF FINANCIAL RETURN
(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON. January 29,
Doubt as to whether the tour of the Japanese athletes in February and March would pay its way was expressed by Mr A. C. Kitto at the adjourned annual meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association. He suggested that the tourists should be asked to compete on Wednesdays or other week-days in addition to the weekly meeting and the coaching and training appearances, not only to augment the financial return, but to give country clubs an opportunity of seeing the Japanese in action. The chairman (Mr R. W. McVilly) said that in the past nearly every overseas team complained of not having sufficient time between contests. A motion was carried stipulating that centres should not permit the athletes to compete at any advertised meeting other than those set out in the itinerary without the permission of the council.
