SEMI-FINALS OF GRADE CRICKET

LAST ROUND OF PENNANT BOWLS

Now that every team has met each other in the senior grade cricket competition, the eighth round of matches, which will start to-day, will hold more than usual interest as the four leading teams have been singled out, and will play each other in the next three rounds. To-day St. Albans, now in the lead, will meet Old Boys,, the third team, at Lancaster Park, and the second team, Tliccarton. vri\\ be matched against West Christchurch at Hagley Park No. 1. Until the last two rounds West Christchurch was well in the lead, but lost on the first innings to East Christchurch at the beginning of the month, and in the last round was decisively beaten by Lancaster Park by an innings and more than 100 runs. In the other games Lancaster Park will play Sydenham, at Sydenham Park, and Old Collegians and East Christchurch will meet on the Christ's College ground. Canterbury, present holders of the Wilding Shield and Kathleen Nunneley Casket, will soon have to meet about the hardest challenge, from Wellington. The players to defend the shield will continue their practice this afternoon at Wilding Park with singles and doubles games. In addition there will bo a continuation of the lower grade competition matches also at Wilding Park.

Although the evening athletic meetings have had to bs cancelled, the afternoon meetings are beirjg continued, and this afternoon, an inter-club competition will be held at English Park. The track should be in a good condition, as with some warm days this week the ground has been getting faster all the time. The inter-club bowling competitions are nearing their close for the present season. The last round of the Manning Cup pennant competition will be played this afternoon, and there are several clubs with a good winning chance. Canterbury is at present in the lead of the averages, having a percentage of 62.85 from United with 60.31 per cent. The usual polo practice will be held at Hagley Park this afternoon. The Savile Cup tournament is drawing near, and the members of the Christchurch team are getting all the practice that can be managed.
