SHOPLIFTER FINED £lO

SUPPRESSION OP WOMAN’S NAME REFUSED

(FBKSS ASSOCIATION TEUEOBAU.)

DUNEDIN. January 11. The shoplifting of expensive frocks from a George street drapery shop by a former employee over a period of four months, led to the appearance in the Magistrate's Court to-day of Claire Elizabeth Taylor, aged 43. wife of a country bPlel licensee. - . It was stated by the police that the woman’s method was to visit the shop when she came to the city by herself during lunch hours and await an opportunity to commit the offences. Goods valued at £54 15s had been stolen, and the husband had since made full restitution. • • Counsel said that the woman had no reason to steal, and the only reason for the offences was that she acted on sudden impulses when in a difficult physical and mental state. The accused was fined £lO on one charge and admitted to probation for a year on the other charges. An application for suppression of her name on the grounds that her husband’s business would be ruined was declined.
