MAN COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE (PRESS ASSOCUTIOM TXLXOBAIf.) WANGANUI. January 11. Phillip Walter Darcy Stewart was charged to-day that oh or about March 23, 1936, at Wanganui, with menaces he demanded from - the sum of £2600 with intent to steal it. Mr W. A. Izard appeared for' the accused, who pleaded guilty and was committed to the Supreme, : Court for sentence. Bail of £IOO was allowed with one similar surety. Mr Izard requested that the name, of the party to whom the letters were written be not published, as he was am Innocent party. The magistrate (Mr J. H. Salmon, SJM.) agreed that the newspapers should be asked not to . publish the name, but said that apparently he bad no power to order suppression. Hq considered that it would be quite unjust to publish it. The evidence disclosed that Stewart wrote several letters to this man, also some to his father, indicating that he was a woman in a certain condition and asking for money. The accused admitted to Detective J. Murray that he made up his mind to try to get some money. - .’ : " ,
