BODY IN HARBOUR

INQUEST INTO DEATH OF SEAMAN An inquest was opened at Lyttelton yesterday by Mr F. F. Reid, S.M., coroner, into the death of James Robert Henry, a seaman, whose body was found in the harbour on Tuesday afternoon. Evidence of identification was given by Ewan McMillan, a seaman, who said he had known Henry Tor about three months. While the steamer Tees was at Lyttelton on Sunday, December 13, Henry went ashore once or twice during the day to get a drink. About 6.45 p.m. on that date, Henry and the boatswain, Buchanan, again went ashore. Witness had not seen Henry since then. The next day the witness made enquiries for Henry, and on the day after that he reported to the mate of the ship that Henry was missing. So far as witness knew, Henry had no worries and had never threatened to commit suicide. The inquest was adjourned sine die.
