WOMEN'S INSTITUTES
LYNDHURST Members of the Lyndhurst Women's Institute held their annual garden party in Mrs E. Woolley's garden. Mrs Gadd, president, welcomed the visitors, who represented the Highbank and Methven Women's Institutes. During the afternoon a "charade" and several competitions were held. The clock golf was won by Miss Rudd and Miss Jean Gilmour won two competitions. A mystery parcel was won by Mrs E. Woolley. The parcels in the treasure hunt, which were presented by Mrs W. Cook, were found by Mrs W. K. Cook, Misses Ivy Watson, and N. Kermode. The monthly competitions, which were judged by Mesdames Vaughan, Wright, and C. H. Watson, resulted as ; follows:—Christmas present not costing more than Is, Miss Edna Gilmour Jl, Mrs Gadd 2, Miss N. Kermode 3; specimen bloom, Miss Jean Gilmour 1, Mrs Henderson and Mrs Woolley (equal) 2, Mrs Scott 3; jar of flowers, Mrs P. Prebble 1, Miss Prebble. 2, Mrs Henderson and Miss Edna Gilmour (equal) 3. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Law and J. H. McKendry, and Misses S. Law and E. Gilmour. ASHLEY BANK Miss J. E. Croft the monthly meeting of the .£ Ashley Women'* Institute. It was decided to make a further donation of 5s to the health stamp campaign. The resignation of Mrs A. Dempsey (secretary), who is leaving the district, was accepted with regret* Miss E. Bowbyes being appointed in her place. Mrs F. O. B. Lane (Sefton) gave an address on kindergartens and children under seven years of age. Competitions resulted:—Jam tart, Mrs W. Drake 1, Miss J. Croft 2; worked apron, Miss Clive Lowe I, Mrs A. Dempsey 2; best bloom, Miss N. Downing 1, Miss E. Bowbyes 2. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs A. Baird, Mrs D. McCrenor, and Miss W. Downing.
