"HOUSE SEEKERS BEING EXPLOITED"
STATEMENT BY MINISTER
AUCKLAND, December 15. Thfc statement that the housing shortage was being used by some house owners to exploit people in seeking homes was made to-day by the Minister in charge of the Fair Rents A'ct (the Hon. H. T. Armstrong). Mr Armstrong said that evidence was accumulating that homeless people were being held to ransom by profiteers, and he was considering remedial measures. The Minister advised tenants who considered that rents were too high to consult the local office of the Labour Department.
