KING’S CONGRATULATIONS
INSPECTION OF FLEET ENDED LONDON, November 13. The King signalled “Splice the mainbrace” before leading Portland for London. All ships were dressed with flags from end to end. This was the King’s first signal to his fleet. Before leaving the Royal yacht, the King sent a message to the Home Fleet as follows: — “I wish to express to all ratings, officers, and commanding officers, my satisfaction with all I have seen. The appearance of the ships and men is admirable, and I congratulate you all.” The King last night spent a happy hour at a lower deck concert with 2000 ratings on H.M.S. Courageous. He joined heartily in the chorus of “Tipperary,” accompanied by a mouth-organ band. To-day, in bright sunshine and a keen wind, his Majesty, who was not wearing an overcoat, boarded the Admiral’s barge and inspected a number of submarines, minelayers, and cruisers. ■
