CUP WEEK BALL

VICE-REGAL PARTY PRESENT A BRILLIANT GATHERING The Cup Week ball has, for the last few years, been one of the most important social events of carnival week, and this year’s gathering, held last night in the Winter Garden, was, like its predecessors, a particularly pleasant gathering, graced by the presence of their Excellencies Lord and Lady Galway. The many guests, besides enjoying the well arranged gathermg, had the pleasure of knowing that they were helping in' a good work, for the proceeds of the ball will he given to St. Saviour’s Orphanages. The ballroom was effectively decorated with masses of flowers, artistically arranged, and the alcove reserved for their Excellencies was banked with roses. In the marquee, where supper was served, the small tables were gay with bowls of mixed flowers, while the large table at which their Excellencies and the committee were seated, was decorated with blue and yellow irises and blue cornflowers. Music was played by Fritz Seymour’s band. . Their Excellencies, accompanied by Major Heber-Percy, arrived at the ball punctually at 9 o’clock, and were received by lllr H. G. Livingstone, the chairman, and the committee, which comprised Mesdames E. J. Cordner, H. Wales. J. G. L. Vernon, «. Greenwood, Marmaduke Bethell, D. W. J. Gould, H. G. Livingstone, G. Lady Galway wore a trained gown of malmaison pink ribbed satin with divided train, and spray of pink flowers on the bodice. Mrs Livingstone wore a frock and Jacket coat of navy faille patterned in lighter blue flame and primrose, with large blue velvet flower at the neckline; Mrs Cordner, frock and cape of black chiffon patterned In rose beige and green In floral design, with posy of pink roses on the bodice. , Mrs Bethell wore a frock of gaily coloured matt crepe patterned in two shades of green, rose, and pastel shades of white background, ermine stole. Mrs Vernon, black chiffon patterned with bunches of field flowers In autumn tonings. Mrs Greenwood, black crepe patterned in briar roses and finished with a black velvet sash caught with a dlamente buckle. , . Mrs Wales, black taffeta frock, with coralacque, brown Marina stripes, and large flowers at the neckline of the draped bodice.

Amongst the dancers were Lady waleran, black skirt and fitting basqued tunic of gold and pastel tinted brocaded lame, with elbow-length sleeves; Miss Theresa Ward, black velvet, with diamente buckle at waistline, and spray of white velvet flowers on the shoulder: Mrs Harman Warren, navy matalasse metal run with silver; Mrs George Oldham, black faille, patterned with large flowers in scattered design; Mrs Geoffrey Wood, navy and white spotted matalasse* with off-the-shoulder effect; Mrs A.
