PREVALENT CYCLING OFFENCE

The practice commonly known as “cycling without hands” was strongly criticised at the last meeting of the Waimate Borough Council, when Cr. P. G. Berry declared that it had become too prevalent in the town and was exceedingly dangerous. Cr. Berry said that the practice was a breach of the borough by-laws, and suggested that the council ask the police to enforce the regulation* The Mayor (Mr G. Dash) remarked that no provision for prohibition of the practice was contained in the Motor Vehicles Amendment Act and on his suggestion It was decided that a recommendation that such provision be made be sent to the Minister for Transport (the Hon. R. Semple). The town clerk was also instructed to communicate with the police and the headmasters of the three schools at Waimate.
