MARKETING EMPIRE FRUIT
CONFERENCE ADOPTS PROPOSALS
LONDON, July 3.
The full conference of Empire fruit producers adopted the subcommittee’s recommendations. The report will be signed on July 8 and it will be forwarded to the British Government. An official told the Associated Press that the outcome was most satisfactory. ’ The conference was confident that legislation on the lines of the recommendations would benefit the industry throughout the Empire. [A message received last week stated that the conference recognised that many of the conference recommendations would require the approval of the British Government, wh : ch, it was hoped, would legislate to ensure EmEire fruits a greater share of the nited Kingdom market Some of the Australian delegates favoured an embargo on the importation of foreign fruit during the Australian season. Alternative proposals were to increase the duty, and the introduction of a quota to regulate supplies from all countries in the Empire and from foreign countries, with a suitable preferential and quantitative basis in favour of the Empire.!
