LICENSED BOOTH
PREVIOUS DECISIONS REVERSED APPLICATION TO BE MADE FOR COMING SHOW A decision to apply for a license to conduct a booth at its diamond jubilee show this year, was made at a meeting of the committee of the Ashburton Agricultural and Pastoral Association, yesterday. There was a long debate on the proposal, which was defeated by a narrow margin when it came up for discussion before the last two annual shows. Mr H. Brown (Seaview) moved the motion which was seconded by Mr J. C. Guinness, and Messrs A. P. Bruce, J. H. Grigg, J. Shearer, S. P. Taylor, and Colonel J. Findlay spoke in support. Messrs H. C. B. WitheH, S. Andrew, G. H. B. Lill, S. Crosson, F. Frampton, H. C. Barton, T. J. Bell, Andrew Brown, and D. G. Wright opposed the proposal. The suggestion that the motion was out of order in the absence of a notice that it was to be distussed, was not upheld by the vice-president (Mr R. J. Martin), who presided, on the ground that there was no rule requiring notice to be given. The motion was carried by 17 votes to 14.
