FREEZING WORKS UNION

TO THE EDITOR OP THE PRESS. Sir, —In reply to the president of the Islington branch of the Canterbury Freezing Workers’ and Related Trades Union, may I be permitted to ask him two questions: (1) why he and a few more should be so fortunate to escape with a yearly due of £1 for 12 months, when the seasonal worker has to pay the same amount for the season? . If he finds another job he has to find subscriptions for another union. (2) What was the date and number of seasonal workers on the job. when the mass meeting was held? I think this is a matter that the Minister for Employment could interest himself in.—Yours, etc., INTERESTED. June 9, 1936. [“The £1 ticket has been the custom for years, and I have made every endeavour to have it adjusted on a more equitable basis,” said Mr A. C. Loach, president of the Islington branch, when he was asked to comment on this letter. “The mass meeting was held at the beginning of the killing season, on Thursday, December 19. There was an attendance of about 90 to 100 men.” 3
