GOVERNMENT AID SOUGHT

CONTROL OF TEMUKA AND ORAM RIVERS

The assistance of the Government has been sought and will probably be granted to deal with the danger of flooding at Temuka and in the Clandeboye and Milford districts. , The rivers which are causing concern are the Temuka and the lower reaches of the Orari river. Through Mr T. D. Burnett, M.P., the Clandeboye and Milford residents approached the * Minister for Public Works (the Hon. R. Semple) to have an engineer inspect the river and report on the protection required. A reply was received on Friday from Mr Burnett saying that the Minister would go into the matter at once. The Mayor of Temuka (Mr A. W. Buzan) on Saturday sent a telegram asking Mr Burnett to have the Temuka river included in the inspection and report.
