E. Sproule, the playermanager, were met by Mr Harrison, president of the Auckland Association, and other officials. ' Sproule said that the team represents a very strong combination. High hopes of success are entertained. They expect to win all their matches against Cuba, which will be.played either at Havana or New Orleans. EXHIBITION MATCHES

BRILLIANT PLAY IN THE DOUBLES

(PUBSS ASSOCIATION TKLBOB4M.) AUCKLAND, March 3CL Exhibition tennis matches were played to-day by members of the Australian Davis Cup team, J. B. Crawford, A. K. Quist, V. B. McGrath, and C. E. Sproule, assisted by N. G. Sturt. In singles, Quist beat McGrath 6-2, 0-6, 6-1, alter a hard-hitting baseline eiteounter in which both players showed command of all the shots in the game. Sproule found the heavy nature of the court more suited to his heavilycut shots than did Sturt, and won straight sets 6-3, 6-4. The most interesting tennis was seen in the doubles between Crawford and Quist and McGrath and Sproule, which Sas stopped by rain at one-all in the :th set. Quist was brilliant overhead, and Crawford's half-volleying earned frequent applause. A feature of :McGrath's play was his return of service short to the feet of the server. Sproule gave him good support. The full score was 6-1, 5-7, 7-5, 6-3, 1-1 unfinished, in favour of Crawford and Quist.
