Although the match has nd hearing on the irter-provincial competition, the Plunket Shield already having been won by Wellington.'the cWcket match between Otago and Canterbury, commencing at Lancaster Park to-day, is; arousing keen, interest among followers of the game in Christchurch; It is the only inter-proyincial match of the season In this city, and, moreover, the two provinces have been keen rivals in sport since the earliest days of the colony. Considering the lateness of the season and the heavy demands made on players’ time by . the extra matches with the touring Marylebone Cricket Club side, both Canterbury and Otago have been able to put very strong teams in the field. Canterbury's only defection is A. W. Roberts, the New Zealand representative all-rounder, while Otago lacks v .V, G. Cavanagh, captain for the earlier matches of the season, G, R. Dickinson, the fast bowler, and C. Saxton. ,The visitors will be strong in batting, and they will have a good, steady attack in J, A. Dunning, F. T. Badcock, C, S. Eimes, and L. Smith, supported by R. McGregor and J. - Scandrett,, the last-mentioned, a Southland, player. The teams for the match are:—
