TIMARXJ RUGBY A gusty north-wester spoiled the football at Fraser Park on Saturday, when the South Canterbury Rugby Union's competitions were advanced another stage. Waihi 011 the No. 1 ground beat Old Boys by 19 points to 11, other results being as follows: — Temuka 22, Celtic 0; and Zingari 18, Geraldine 8. Old Boys failed to take sufficient advantage of the wind in the first spell, which finished 8 to 5 in their favour. To have been safely ahead, they should have had a bigger rrlargin of points in hand when they changed over. They elected to play open football and paid the penalty. The first try was obtained by Morton, who followed up a kick by Graham and touched down near the posts for Gaflaney to goal. A little later Jones kicked high and regaining possession, crossed for an unconverted try. Before the interval, Waihi attacked strongly and from a scramble a forward scored for King to convert. Woohvortli3 2. TEMUKA Arrangements for the celebration of the King's Silver Jubilee in Temuka to-day are complete, an attractive programme having been prepared, which will begin at noon. The celebrations will be centralised in the domain, aftei a procession through the main streets of the town, and addresses will be given by Mr T. D. Burnett, M.P,, Mr K. Mackenzie, chairman of the Geraldine County Council, and a representative of the Maoris. This will be followed by a sports programme for the children and adults, and a display by the Maoris. In the evening there will be a fireworks display in the domain, followed by a bonfire in the County Council reserve adjoining. The celebrations will close with a jubilee ball, which will be held in the Drill Hall. Mr E. Dobson presided at the monthly meeting of the management committee of the Temuka and District Basketball Sub-Association. Mr J. C. Hayhurst tendered his resignation a3 a delegate to the association. ' The South Canterbury Association advised that a remit empowering the association to arrange the games between the representative teams of the subasscciations would be discussed at the annual meeting. It was agreed that the Temuka Sub-Association should instruct the delegates to oppose this resolution. Mr Paiki reported that the arrangements for the opening day were complete. The Temuka Pipe Band would lead the procession of teams to the grounds, and all the affiliated clubs would take part. Reports from the delegates to the centre were received, and the report from the grounds committee stated that they had procured two courts from the Presbyterian Tennis Club and recommended that two be procured from the Domain Board. The treasurer presented a statement of receipts and expenditure for the coming year, which showed that £2O would have to be raised from outside sources. The affiliated teams were graded as follows: First division, Temuka Young Women, High School Old Girls, Clandeboye, and Pleasant Point; second, High School, High School Old Girls, Milford, Temuka, Young Women, Winchester and Geraldine; third, Clandeboye. Orton, Pleasant Point, Geraldine (2), Kerrytown, and Temuka Young Women. The following committees were approved:—Protest, M. Washington, Mrs J. C. Hayhurst, and Messrs Malcolmson, Paiki, and Armstrong; flag, the Temuka High School delegates, and Mr Paiki. The matter of selecting referees for the opening day was left to Mrs Templeton. The second round of games in the friendly Fridays winter card tournament was played on Friday evening in St. Joseph's Hall, when Druids 56, defeated Odafellows 55; and Hibernians 57, beat Citizens 54. In the teams' aggregate, Druids now lead with 120 points, while the other teams are in the following order:—Oddfellows 118, Hibernians 104, Citizens 102. In the individual aggregates, W. Frisby leads in cribbage with 23 points, and S. Higlnbottom has 21, while in euchre .T. K. Young has 21 points and A. Preddy 20.
