Osmers, of Methven, j preached his farewell sermon to the congregation of St. Stephen's Anglican Church yesterday morning in view of his departure for Papanui. The evening service at St. Stephen's Chuich "was taken by the Rev. T. Williams, of Mount Somers. Mr \V. H. Amos left by the south express for Dunedin on Satuiday. Mr E. M. Bates, of the _ Fields, Division, Department of Agriculture, has returned to Ashburton alter a holiday in the North Island. Miss E. Aitken, who has been head of the domestic science department of the Ashburton Technical High School for 11 years, has been appointed to the staff of the West Christchurch District High School, and will take over her new duties about July 1. Mr H. R. D. Unemployed Registration There are 197 men registered for unemployed relief work under the No. 5 scheme at Ashburton this week, ana 139 men will draw the sustenance payment. Boxing Association The committee of the Ashburton Boxing Association met on Saturday, with Mr W. R. Tucker (president) presiding. It was decided to hold a match and open novice tournament on May 23. Milk Cart Capsized The horse attached to the milk delivery cart of Mr K. Glenie. Tinwald. bolted when it was left outside a residence in Eton street, Ashburton East, yesterday morning. The horse and cart successfully negotiaied several corners until Peter street east was reached. The cart had almost com.pleted the turn into East street when it overbalanced and capsized in front of the Commercial Hotel, throwing the horse onto the road. Several gallons of milk were spilt and one splashboard and one shaft of the cart were broken. The horse was injured on one front leg. Reliability Trial Postponed The eight-hour reliability trial of the Ashburton Motor-Cycle Club, which was to have been held yesterday, was postponed on account of the uncertainty of the weather. King's Jubilee Decorations Decorations to several public buildings have been completed in honour of the King's Silver Jubilee. The outline of the municipal chambers and public library has been decorated with vari-coloured electric lights, and the same scheme was to have been employed on the Ashburton County Council office, but owing to the demand for lights throughout the Dominion they could not be procured. The county office has been lit ur> with a floodlight for the occasion. Flags will be flown from all public buildings and business premises to-day. Profit from Fair The sum of £ls was raised by the Junior Christian Endeavour of the Baring Square Methodist Church on Friday, when a fair was organised for the benefit of home and foreign missions in connexion with the church. Women's Hockey A start was made with the Asliburton Women's Hockey Association's competitions on Saturday afternoon, when conditions were favourable. To make for even contests in tho senior grado this season, matches are being played on a handicap system. SENIOR GRADE High School Old Girls (scr) defeated Kcreoue (2 goals handicap) by 3 goals to 2 in tho match at Rakrtia. For tho winners, P. Brand. J. Wilson, and 11. Menziea shot goals. Mr A. C. Nicol was the referee. A win by 4 goals to 1 was recorded by Methven (2 goals) in its match against Tinwald (scr), at Ashburton. M. Owen and E. Crotney scored for Methven and I. Hauck shot a goal for Tinwald. Mr W. C. Bishop was tho referee. Scoring was good in the match between Raknin (2 goals) and Baring Square ('J goals), at Ashburton. The final result was P-ii in favour of Rakaia, for which team O. Henderson obtained tivo goals, and N. Tatterton and S. Broach one each. Scorers for Ilaring Square were T.
