WOMEN'S DIVISION OF FARMERS' UNION
SOL'THHJiOOK-FLAXTON BRANCH The annual mecfinjj of the South-brook-Klaxton branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union was held recently in the Southbrook Hall. Mrs Rainey presided over a large attendance. The president stated that the membership tod nearly doubled that of last year. Mrs Rainey was presented with a posy of flowers by Mrs Gillanders, who also thanked Mrs Rainey for her services. A presentation of a handbag was made to Miss Dickhort secretary of the branch, in appreciation of her services. Officers elected were:—President. Mrs Rainey; vice-presidents, Mesdames C. Shuttlewor.t.h, R. R. Gillanders, and James Stevenson; secretary and treasurer, Miss C. Dickhoff: assistant secretary, Mrs F Burgesi; executive, Mesdames N. Archer. C. Archer. L. Kolkman, A. Mcintosh. J. McGrath, F. Newton, E. Stanton, and Miss A. Foster; delegate to Dominion Conference, Mrs Rainey and Miss Dickhoff: delegates to provincial executive, Mrs Rainey, Mrs C. Shuttleworth, and Miss Dickhoff; advisory members, Mrs R. R. Gillanders and Miss A. Foster; auditor, Mr Ager. Th# competition, making the best article from a flourbag. resulted: Mrs L- Kolkman 1, Mrs Atkinson 2, tnd Mrs J. McGrath 3. Mrs A. M. Carpenter (Fernsidej judged the competition, and also gave a very interesting talk on the work of the division. Host**«e* were Mesdames E. Stanton, Gil-JaiEKter-a, Bailie, G, Mcintosh, and Miss P. Rainey.
SPRINGFIELD BRANCH The annual meeting of the Springfield branch of the Women's Division «>.( the New Zealand Farmers' Union •was held in the local hall, with Mrs Jt Mfiiiken presiding. The annual report stated that the branch had had a very successful year, and many interesting demonstrations had been jjiven. A satisfactory credit balance wan reported by the treasurer. The following officers were elected:— President, Mrs R. Milliken: vice-presi-dents, Mrs A. Duncan and Mrs Ashton; secretary. Miss P. H. Reid; committee, Mesdames H. McKeown. J. Henry, R. Z, iStW 0 "' R - Hardie, L. G. Milliken, N. Wiillmm, Misses S. and N. Popple; trustee*, Mrs R. Innes, Mrs Ashton: delegate* to provincial executive meetings, Mrs R. Milliken, Miss P. H. Reid, and Miss S. Popple; newspaper reporter, Miss P. H. Reid. The cookery competitions held during the year were won by Mi» P. H. Reid 1, and Miss N. J opple 2. Winners of most points in the arts arid crafts competitions were: Mm P. H. Reid 1, Mrs R.
