Main interest in Die special meeting of the Tavanaki Jockey Club held todry centred in the performances of the horses claiming important Easter engagements.

The Hurdles The hurdlers included Tudor and Pahu, the former being .in at Ellerslie and Riecarton, and Pahu at Feeding and Riecarton. Tudor hit the second Inst l'cnce and lo:-;t his rider, thus spoiling what, looked like at the time an excellent winning chance. Tudor is to no to Auckland in preference to Riecarton. nud will be ridden by W. Pascoe. Pahu finished second. The form was not impressive, and ho did not race with a great deal of dash, but lie should improve with the racearid do better over a longer journey. He had a Ion;; trip up, by float all the way, from Trentharn yesterday. Pahu will go dow»i to Riecarton, leavi. Wellington on Friday night. W. Bowden is making the trip to ride him. May Stay at Home The 1 wo-.vear-old Oily Fairfax is engaged in the Great Northern Champagne Stakes, but after her display today she will in all probability stay at home. She was very fractious ut the barrier and eventually got left standing. While there is no doubt about her galloping ability, an expensive trip is too much of a gamble with her as she is so bad-mannered. Caußht on the Tost There was plenty of interest in the open sprint, which contained sprinters such as Diatomous. Golden Hair, Rcreatu. and Lady Kyra. Diatomous just failed to win. He ran his usual brilliant race out in front and was caught on the post. It was his first race for some time, and the going was on the dead side, and not in his favour, so his effort may be termed satisfactory in view of the Auckland Easter Handicap, in which he will be ridden by A. Tucker. Diatomous, however, does not impress as a miler. Rereatu finished in the rear of the field, but there is an excuse for him, as he was kicked up hard to keep with the early pace, whereas he does best if allowed to settle down before being asked for his effort. He is definitely going on to Auckland. Lady Kyra ran just a fair race, while Golden Hair showed no dash at all. She tailed off all the way, and appears a long way below the mare she was as a three-year-old. O. Cox thinks that her long spell is the cause of her failure to come to hand. Chief Marionette claimed attention as she is engaged in the Great Autumn Handicap at Riecarton, but despite being opposed by only two moderates, she ran a shockingly bad race and was tailed off all the way. She moved very sore and shortened her stride towards the end of the race. Her Riecarton trip on this form appears hopeless. She will race at Feilding, if at all, during the holidays.
