NOTES ON THE RACING (srauui. to tmb rr.ese.) WHANGAREI, April 13. The Ellerslie trainer R. S. Bagby supplied a winning double at Whangarei to-day, when he won the Autumn Handicap with Sir Abb and the Flying Handicap with Impasto. Sir Abb started i- pronounced favourite and won by half a head after an exciting contest with Monanui, who had none the best of the running. Impasto was very moderately supported, and returned double figures on the win machine. Impasto was favoured with a great, run after he and Boughal had received all the best of the stage. Boughal drew clear of him at the end of a furlong and a half, and Goldllnch rod"- him very patiently when Tray Bit ran up fast on tire outside at the top. Boughal and Tray Bit left an opening in the rails in the straight, and Impasto got through to win by a neck. Tray Bit did not have any the best of luck and should be a good prospect for a race at the autumn meetings. Kilonsoa wins Well On the strength of her good third on the first day, Kilonsoa was made a solid favourite for the Junior Stakes and she won ; well. She is an improving three-year-old filly by Kilbroney from Alonsoa and is trained by J. L. Gray at Takanini. A Surprise The three-year-old High Tea brought off a surprise in the Onerahi Hack Handicap, just outstaying the pacemaker, Te Hai, at the finish. The winner returned more than a score and a half for a win. An enquiry was held regarding the running of High Tea compared with his effort on the first day. After hearing evidence the judicial committee was of the opinion that High Tea was run on his merits in the Portland Handicap, but owing to a wind infirmity he was not able to produce his best form. The committee unanimously decided to take no action. Vaipa! Too Good Valpai was too good for the moderate hurdlers in the Parua Bay Hack Hurdles, and assumed command half a mile-from home to score very easily from Star Maire, who v/as inclined to run down her fences. Valpai should be capable of winning in better company. A Close Finish Necks separated the placed horses in the Ruatangata Handicap, Royal Potoa leading most of the way and staying on to win from Orefield and Gay Cockade. The last-named was very unlucky not to win, being checked a couple of times and in the rear most of the way. Rona Bay Improves The improving Rona Bay won at a good price in the Northern Hack Handicap. She assumed command three furlongs from home and scored by a length and a half from Illuminagh with Black Marl in third. The favourite, Lap Up. finished solidly to get fourth after being a long way back. Reno Bay seems to stay fairly well and should win more races.
