ORARI BRIDGE SCHOOL

JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS SPORTS AND DANCE The jubilee celebrations of the Orari Bridge School were continued when I a sports programme and an enjoyable | jubilee ball were held. The results of the sports races held in the afternoon were as follows: Present decade (men): Dudley McDonald 1, C. Johnston 2. Present decade (girls): Miss M. Pratt 1, Miss N. Lyons 2. .-'.»' Married women's race: Mrs P. Scott 1, Mrs Waller 2. Married men's race: Fred Elling 1, I. Kelland 2. Single men's race: J. Patterson 1, H. Ford 2. Girls' race: Melva Humm'l, Daphne Waller 2. Boys' race: Ron Lee 1, Colin Coulter 2. Because of the rain the single women's race was not held. The' Orari Bridge Hall was packed to its fullest extent when the ball and final gathering of the Orari ' Bridge. School jubilee celebrations were held. During the evening Mr J. Macdonald called on Mr A. McLean, a former teacher of the school, to express the feelings of former teachers and pupils on the success of the jubilee. Mr McLean heartily congratulated all those instrumental in bringing the celebrations to such a successful termination, and thanked those con-' cerned, especially the two chairmen, Messrs J. Macdonald and Mr W. Ford, and the joint secretaries, Miss O. Ford and Mr R. A. Bruce, and the committee. He spoke of the immense amount of work entailed. Mr B. R. Macdonald, Mayor of Geraldine, also congratulated those in charge of the celebrations and apologised for no£ being able to be present at the afternoon's programme, and he thanked the committee for their invitation and expressed his enjoyment of the jubilee." .''».' Music was played by Kelland's orchestra, and extras by Miss Tui Turton and the Temuka Pipe Band. Messrs Ford and Haywood were masters of ceremonies.
