• CONFERENCE BEGINS AT TAURANGA (PMBS ASSOCIATION TMJSGBAH.) TAURANGA, January 19. The formal opening of the Douglas Social Credit Movement's annual conference took place at Mount Maunganui last night in a marquee under the pine trees in one of the camping grounds. A hundred and fifty members and many visitors attended. In the absence of the Dominion president, Mr H. M. Rushworth, M.P., the senior vice-president, Mr A. C. Sexton, of Auckland, presided and welcomed the delegates and visitors, lie expressed appreciation of the cooperation of local business people and others in the credit The speaker for the evening was Mr R. P. Graham, of Wellington, who, referring to the fact that the meeting was being.held in the Bay of Plenty, said that the district was aptly named,but was symbolical of the Dominion and the Empire in that.it possessed an abundance of the good things of life from which many people were debarred. The community was now faced with a situation "which was absurd, farcical and insane." He then dealt with, the present economic situation and proposed a solution along the usual lines of the movement. The speaker concluded with an appeal to. non-members to support the movement, demanding monetary reform on scientific lines. After answering many questions, the speaker was accorded a vote of thanks on the motion of Mr W. Lee Martin (Waikato).
