DISPUTE OVER SALVAGED STEAMER
CHINA SEA INCIDENT HONG KONG, January 18. Six Japanese boarded the 3000-ton Toa Maru, which was towed to Hong Kong by a Chinese steamer which found her adrift in the China Sea with, nobody aboard and claimed her as a prize. The vessel was recently purchased by Japanese interests at Amoy, and was being towed to Japan when she broke adrift. The Japanese remained aboard for eight hours, when the British officer who had been placed in charge of the vessel ordered them off. The Japanese then went ashore. It is believed that the ownership of the vessel will be disputed in the courts.
