FUNDS FOR IMPROVEMENT OF AERODROMES (Received January 20, 8.3 p.m.) SYDNEY, January 20. The Minister for. Defence (Mr R. A. Parkhill) announced to-day that £35,000 had been made available by the Commonwealth Government for the improvement of aerodromes and organisation on the Australian portion of the England-Australia air route. Of this £soop will be spent on the Darwin aerodrome and £2500 on Mascot aerodrome. tWhen the Athena was bogged on the Darwin aerodrome, Captain Wilson, chief pilot, said it might be necessary to suspend the service till the aerodome was improved. Lord Sempill recently severely criticised Mascot aerodrome, which, however, is not used by aeroplanes on the service, as Cootamundra is the terminus.] ATHENA A DAY LATE (Received January 20, 8.15 p.m.) DARWIN, January 20. Twenty-four hours behind time, the Imperial Airways 'mail aeroplane Athena took off from Darwin at 7 a.m. to-day for Koepang.
