ANOTHER CHURCHILL IN POLITICS

INDEPENDENT CONSERVATIVE CANDIDATE (Received January 21, 12.15 a.m.) LONDON, January 20. Mr Randolph Churchill, the 23-year-old son of Mr Winston Churchill, is contesting the by-election for the Wavertree seat, which is vacant because of the elevation to the peerage of the Hon. A. R. Nail-Cain. There are already three candidates, Messrs James Piatt (National Conservative), J. J. Cleary (Labour), and A. Morris (Liberal). Mr Churchill, who is fighting as an Independent Conservative, says Mr Piatt's speeches do not suggest that he is prepared to defend the vital requirements of Lancashire trade by opposing Indian tariffs. Mr Churchill also criticises the Indian reforms. It is recalled that Mr Winston Churchill won his first seat, Oldham, another Lancashire constituency, at the age of 25. He says his son did not consult him, but acted on his own responsibility.
