FORMER LEAGUE PLAYER

PRESENTATION ON EVE OF MARRIAGE A very pleasant ceremony was held on Thursday night at the Dickens Street Hall, in honour of Mr James Sanders, one of the most popular Rugby League players in the Dominion. whose marriage will take place on Monday. There was a large gathering of league, boxing, and athletic representatives present. Mr C. H. Goodman, president of the Addington Rugby League Club, was in the chair. For many years Mr Sanders was captain of the first-grade team of the Aldington Rugby League Club. He was captain of the Canterbury team, and visited Australia and Great Britain with a New Zealand Rugby League team, also playing for New Zealand against visiting teams. Mr Sanders retired from regular play tivo seasons ago, and since then has devoted his time to coaching and acted as selector, while his interest in boxing and athletics has never flagged. He has been for s.veral years a member of the Riccarton Cricket Club. During the evening Mr W. S. E. Moyle, chairman of the Canterbury Rugby Football League, presented Mr Sanders, on behalf of the Addington Club and League supporters generally, with a set of crystal ware. Among those who paid tribute to Mr Sanders's popularity and fine qualities on and off the field were Messrs Gordon Haines, A. Green, I. Hull, R. McGloin, L. G. Amos, and James Amos. In reply, Mr Sanders spoke of the great pleasure he had derived from football, boxing, and athletics, and said that any proficiency he had shown was due to his friends for the helpful advice and coaching they had given him. Items were given by Messrs George Sherlock, S. C. Cooke, Ted Mather, H. Riches, and P. O'Reilly.
