COMPLAINT OF WOOLSTON RESIDENTS
COMPANY ENDEAVOURING TO
MEET REQUESTS
It is hoped that the Davis Gelatine Company will take action early next year to eliminate the cause of an alleged nuisance to residents in the Woolston district near the company's works. The residents have complained for a number of years, and the subject of those complaints has been the basis of frequent negotiations between the Christchurch City Council and the company concerned. When the Mayor, Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P., returned yesterday from his visit to Australia he said that he had met Mr G. F. Davis, managing-director of the company, in Australia. Mr Davis had explained that the chemists had been instructed to concentrate on discovering a useful way of disposing of the material which was said to create the nuisance at the works in Christchurch, and he had been assured that a method had been perfected which would turn the material into fertiliser. All that remained was to design the plant required to operate the process, and it was expected to be able to effect the disposal early in 1935.
