MANY CLOSE CONTESTS THIS YEAR

SUCCESS FOR LINCOLN COLLEGE

There were many close contests for the points prizes awarded this year at the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association's shew, and after computation the following awards have been announce!:—

The Canterbury Agricultural College won the Leonard White Shield for the most points in the stud classes with 163. Of these points, 101 were gained in the oig sections and the remainder in Shorthorn cattle, Border Leicester, English Leicester, Romney Marsh, and Southdown sheep. This trophy was won by the college in 19o3; but in the seven preceding years Mr J. A. Johnstone won with his entries in the Corriedale sheep and Shorthorn cattle sections. The cup given by Professor K. EAlexander for competition among attendants of exhibits who had prepared the stock for show was won by Mr James Brown, stud shepherd for the estate of the late H. T. Little (Hm Hui) sheep of this exhibitor scoring 61 in the Corriedale section. The run-ners-up were Mr J. Linton, jun. (Canterbury Agricultural College), 53 m the sheep sections, and Mr Robert Reid (Darneld), 42 in English Leicester and Corriedale sections.

English Leicester Cup The medal presented by the Leicester Breeders' Association of England for most points in English Leicesters has been won for several years past by Mr James Reid. On this occasion there was a very close contest for it, and only one point divided winner and runner-up. Mr James Reid scored M points and Sir R. Heaton Rhodes's Otahuna flock was next with 35. In the contest for the shield presented by Mr James Deans for most points in Southdowns a record was established by Mr 11. J. Andrew <Maheno), who scored 97 points out of a possible of 156. The Canterbury Seed Company's Oakleigh Estate was run-ner-up with 32 points. For the troohv presented by Messrs Blnckburne. Smith and Company for Romney Marsh sheep, Mr A. S. Elworthy was the winner, with 3(5 points, and the Blenheim exhibitor, the estate of .the late Mr James Thomson, who only sent down a small team, scored 2? Mr W H Oi-boll 'Levels) was third, with 10. and the Canterbury Agricultural College fourth, with 15, There was also a close contest for the Murphv Memorial Cup. which this voa'r went to the exhibitor scoring most points in the Shorthorn cattle. It was won bv Mr J. C. Chamberlain, with 30 points. Mr H. C. Barton was the runnor-np. with 27. and Mr H. L Chamberlain third, with 17.

Fat Sheep For the most points in fat sheep and lambs Mr R. G. McClure iKillmchyi won the Eclipse Cup given by the New Zealand Refrigerating Cunipany. Lid., with 27 points, and Mr .!. D. Galpin (Southbridgei was runner-up with 24. The New Zealand and Australian Land Company won the Corriedale .Society's Cim fur most points in ewes with Hi. and the next best were Mr O. T. Evan- 'Taruna') and Bushcv Park Estale, with 10 each. The D.f.C. trophy for most points in Harder Leicester* was won by Mr Donald Grant fTimartO. with a score of 46. Mr R. .1. Low fßakaia) being runner-up with 20. The Slurry Cup for most points in wool was won by Mr Thomas Stevenson, with 17 points.
