HOUSE EXTENSIVELY DAMAGED BY FIRE
A two-storeyed, unoccupied wooden house of 11 rooms, at 54 Avonside drive, was extensively damaged by fire on Wednesday evening. The house was owned by Mrs Crawford, of Springfield, and was insured with the Mercantile and General Insurance Company for £450. The Christchurch Fire Brigade received a call at 11.47 p.m., but the fire had evidently been burning for some time, and it had a strong hold when the. brigade arrived. The greatest damage was done to the rear of the building and to the roof. It is not known how the lire began.
