TRAMWAY BOARD

♦_— FORTNIGHTLY MEETING The Christchurch Tramway Board met yesterday afternoon, when Mr J. K. Archer presided. Also present were: Mrs E. R. McCombs, M.P., and Messrs W. J. Walter, G. T. Thurston, C. E. Jones, G. Manning, J. Mathison, E. Parlane, and E. J. Howard, M.P. The Auditor-General returned the board's balance-sheet certified and without a tag. The quotation of Richardson, McCabe and Company for 4000 hardwood sleepers at 6s 7d each delivered was accepted. Extra provision has been made for relief workers on the St. Martins route. However, a statement in the report of the works and traffic committee reported to the board that the relief workers had not always used the cars provided for them, but had crowded into the ordinary time-table trams, to the inconvenience of other passengers. The board decided to adopt the recommendation of the committee to request the unemployment authorities to assist in avoiding these incidents. Trolley-Bus Service The works and traffic committee reported that the representations of the Richmond Burgesses' Association, that the trolley-buses should run to North Beach, had been carefully considered, but the committee had decided to adhere to the present plan. Prosecutions Instituted It was reported that prosecutions had been instituted both for breach of the by-law preventing taxis from touting for tramway passengers and fcr non-observation of the non-trans-lerability of weekly passes.
