INCREASED RECEIPTS IN CARNIVAL WEEK ! BOARD EXPRESSES SATISFACTION Satisfaction with thti improved receipts from passenger traffic on the trams during Carnival Week was expressed at the meeting of the Christchurch Tramway Board yesterday afternoon, when the figures were announced. The increase for the week this year over that of 1933 was £430 and the increase for People's Day of the Christchurch Metropolitan Show was £165. The board decided to congratulate the staff on its performance during the week, because throughout eight days of heavy traffic trams were not involved in any accidents, and there were no complaints. The figures quoted by the chairman, Mr J. K. They were particularly so because there were no accidents during the week and no complaints against the service. He moved that the board express its appreciation of the services of its traffic staff, its performance being much to its credit. The board passed the motion. Mr G. Manning said that the figures showed that there had been a fall in revenue in the last two years of approximately 50 per cent, as compared with the years 1922 to 1925.
