SOLDIER THANKS BUSINESS MEN
«. SI iPI'ORT BEFORE AND DI KING WAR I THE PRESS Special Service.] AUCKLAND, October 29. Speaking as the guest of honour at a meeting of the Auckland Rotary Club, General Sir Alexander Godley took the opportunity to thank business men for the support that had been accorded him during the period from 1910 to 1914, when he was training the territorial force, and also for the support given to the Government, to himself, and to the expeditionary force generally during the war. Sir 'Alexander Godley declared emphatically that there never had been a finer body of soldiers in any war in any part of the world than those who constituted the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. He made a plea that the utmost possible help should be given to returned soldiers. Unfortunately this problem was greater than formerly, for as the years passed by disabilities arising from the war were frequently accentuated', and the position of sufferers became increasingly difficult as old age approached.
