MAHARAJA'S BOUNTY
<> BIG DISTRIBUTION TO POOR CALCUTTA, August 00. More than £15,000 worth of gold was distributed among thousands of the citv's poor at celebrations to mark 50 years' rule of the Maharaja of Gondal, ruler of the state, in Kathiawar, Western India. The Maharaja drove through the city, receiving a salute of 51 guns. Amnesty was granted 135 prisoners.
