August 30. j The Treasury in an announce- j ment states: "At the end of the war the Union of South Africa owed some £10,500.000 to this-country in respect of the war debt, whch by 1931 had been reduced by repayments to £7,500,000. The sum ot £337,500 is payable annually on account ot interest on the debt. When the .suspension of interGovernmental debts was agreed upon under the Hoover Moratorium and arrangements afterwards were j made at the Lausanne Con'erence. ; South Africa generously decided i not to avail herself of the offer to \ suspend this war debt payment and j continued it regularly up to the: present time. j "His Majesty's Government in the j Union has now expressed the desire j to rcpav the whole of the debt out- , standing, namely £7.500.000. on j August 31 and his Majesty's Government in the United Kingdomhas gratefully accepted the otter.'
