ST. JOHN AMBULANCE

Rceentlv steps were taken to form a branch" of the St. John Ambulance Association at Sumner and all the necessary arrangemenst have now been completed. Word has been received by Colonel George Barclay from the Grand Prior of the Order OL R. H, the Duke of Connaught) that his Majesty the King has approved of the registration of the Sumner Cadet Ambulance Division. The work is controlled by Cadet Officer C. Angus, and already 14 members have joined and have received instruction in general first-aid, stretcher drill, and bandaging. It is expected that arrangements will be made, ioi instruction in swimming and me-saj. - ing, and it is hoped to form a girls division soon. , n- „. Meetings will be held every Tuesday evening in the Parish Hall and at regular intervals lectures will be given by doctors and other qualified persons on various aspects of the work. Life-Saving To-morrow at Taylor's Mistake three important events will be held, the Black and White Cup, a four-man relay event in which the first man swims with a belt, the Kestcven Cup, a seven-man alarm event, and the senior resuscitation championship. There was an unusual incident in Ike game between Chambers and Martin v. Peek and Forrest. When Forrest was Iving two shots and game, Martin thought that he had played all his bnwK and picked up his mat. Good Templars , Bro. VV. Sexton presided over a 'meeting of the Sumner Pride Juvenile Lodge as chief templar. Bro. L. Clark reported that acknowledgments had been received from Mrs Longuet and Mr Swenoy. of the letters of sympathy which the lodge had forwarded. Bro." St. Paul's Methodist Church The anniversary social of St. Paul'.- Methodist Church. Sumner, took place in the church on Thursday evening. The Rev. R. E. Patched presided over a good attendance of members. The annual report was read by Mill. W. Heslop, and outlined a very successful year's work. The balancesheet was read, also, and considered very satisfactory. Among those present was the superintendent of the circuit, the Rev. J. Harris.
