<j> COMMITTEE MEETING Mr U. Chapman (president) presided at a meeting of the general committee of the Northern Agricultural and Pastoral Association held at Rangiora yesterday. There was an attendance of 26 members. The chairman reported that Die silver challenge cup presented by Mr C. Rands for annual competition in the home and dairy produce and cookery section had been received. The cup carries a miniature which becomes the properly of the winner. The Iloyal Agricultural Society wrote replying to a complaint about the adulteration of sodium chlorate and advised that there had been nothing to show that chlorate of soda of inferior composition was coming to New Zealand. The samples analysed by the chief chemist have always been fairly pure.
A letter way received from the Under-Secretary of Internal Affairs stating that the association's application for a share in the proceeds of one of the large art unions to liquidate the existing mortgage on the building had been placed on record for consideration. The chairman reported that lie had visited the schools in the district to place the claims of the association for the support of the school children when placing entries. He had been very successful and probably the association would receive about 1300 entries.
It was decided to close the date of entries on Tuesday, October 24. Messrs N. Goldsbui-y and W. S. Wright were elected members and live nominations were accepted. Mr G. 11. Hassell was appointed member in charge of competitions, and Mr D. A. Campbell was appointed to arrange for the supervision of the poultry classes. Messrs E. D. R. Smith and James Wyllie were appointed a sideshow committee.
The Fields Superintendent of the Department of Agriculture, advised that the department was unable to comply with the request to provide an exhibit of roots and grasses at the next show. A statement of receipts and expenditure showed receipts, £129 Is 8d and payments £l3 9s 10d, leaving a credit balance of £lls lis lOcf. Accounts amounting to £3 14s 5d were passed for payment.
