H.M.S. DIOMEDE
ARRIVAL AT LYT'I ELTON H.M.S. Diomede. one of the two light cruisers of the New Zealand division of the Royal Navy, arrived at Lyltelton early yesterday morning from Queen Charlotte Sound. The vessel arrived off the moles* at 6.20 a.m. and was alongside No. 3 wharf at 0.30 a.m. The weather and sea were calm, and the services of the pilot and tug were not. required. No extended leave will be granted during the vessel's stay at Lyttelton, restricted leave and over-night leave only being allowed the men. The Diomede is to sail on Wednesday next for Akaroa, thence Dunedin, Timaru, Wellington. Gisborne, and Auckland. Official Calls. An official call was made upon Captain Cosmo Graham, who is in command of the Diomede, by the chairman of the Harbour Board, Mr W. G. Gallagher, and the secretary, Mr C. H. Clibborn, the harbourmaster. Captain .1. Crawford, and engineer, Mr P. W. Fryer. Calls were also made by the Mayor of Lyttelton, Mr W. T. Lester, and town clerk, Mr F. Hobbs. and the Deputy-Mayor of Chrislchurch, Mr J. K. Archer, and town clerk, Mr J. S. Neville, by Captain W. Murphy, New Zealand Staff Corps, and by Messrs T. M. Charters and C. J. Treleaven, representing the Christchurch branch of the Navy League. Captain Graham will return the call of the DeputyMayor of Christchurch <Cr. J. K. Archer) at 12.30 p.m. to-morrow- at the City Council Chamber. Since she last visited Lyttclton the Diomede has refitted at the Devonport dockyard, Auckland, H.M.S. Dunedin becoming the flag-ship. The crew o£ the Diomede include about 100 new ratings, who recently arrived from England. The Officers. The otlicers are as follows:—Captain C. M. Graham, R.N., Commander J. W.
