A SATISFACTORY PROFIT ' 1 The financial results of the Canter« bury Provincial Bands' Association's contest, held at Leestou on October 7, were very gratifying, according to a statement presented at a meeting of the contest committee at Leeston by the treasurer, Mr T. D. M. Bradlev, The meeting was presided over bv Mr R. T. McMillan. In a letter to the committee, tba supervisor of the contest, Mr Trevor Thomas, of Ashburton, described the contest as outstandingly successful, and warmly complimented the tee and all the officials upon the man. ner in which tney had carried out their duties. The statement of accounts gave ti» total revenue as £l4l 19s 6d, of which £ 116 12s 6d was made up of gate takings. The expenditure was £65 16s Id, leaving a profit of £69 3s sd. This sum would be allocated as follows: 25 pet cent, to the Provincial Bands' Associa« tion, amounting to £l7 6s; 25 percent to the Ellesmere Brass Band, together with a small percentage for winning band, amounting to £l9 15s sd; the remainder to be divided among the 13 visiting bands, their share being £2 9s 4d each. The refreshment and advertising accounts had been kept separate, the former showing a profit of £l9 12s 9d and the latter £l3. The committees in charge of these matters had worked independently of the contest committee, their profits being to the Ellesmere Br ss Band. . • The chairman expressed gratification that such a good balance had been obtained. Every member of the refresh* ment committee had worked very hard and the profit made for the local band was very creditable. All the officials and others who had helped to make the contest successful were warmly thanked. Congratulations were extended to the Ellesmere Brass Band upon winning the C grade shield, and the Ellesmere Agricultural and Pastoral Association was thanked for the use of the show grounds.
