Mark Fagan represented the National Executive. The question of a successor to Mr Holland as Labour candidate for Buller was fully dif cussed. It was decided to submit four names for the consideration of the National Executive, with which, ac! cording to the Labour party's constu tution, rests the final decision in re. spect to the selection of a candidate at a by-election. The representatives present unanimously pledged themselves to support whichever one of their four nominees would be selec. ted by the National Executive. The four names forwarded were Messrs P. C. Webb, J. Smeaton, R. Holland and J. Thorn. The National Executive met this morning. Two of those whose names were submitted by the West. port meeting, Messrs Holland and Thorn, were not available as cands dates. Mr P. C. Webb was selected, and will contest the seat in. the in! terests of Labour"
