The Ministry for National Enlightenment exhorts all organisations to encourage an increase in the population by reducing the contributions of members possessing large families. Legislation is urged making a family of three or four children the normal German unit, and granting progressive alleviation in taxation to larger families. Because of a threat of assassination by a German secret society, Dr. Albert Einstein is leaving Belgium temporarily to stay on a friend's yacht. His home is being" strongly guarded. Dri Einstein, writing in the press some time ago, said: "Once one could expect to fight militarism in Europe by individual refusal to bear arms. Circumstances have now completely' changed. There is a power in Central Europe, which is in every way preparing for a new war.'' I COMMUNISTS SENTENCED TO DEATH NINE LIVES FOR ONE DUSSELDORF, September 7. Nine communists were sentenced to death for the shooting of a Nazi and the wounding of another in a street battle in Dusseldorf in June, 1932. There was no evidence to show who fired the fatal shot. Two others were acquitted and another was sentenced to 15 years' hard labour. REICHSTAG FIRE TRIAL FRENCH LAWYERS HARKED j FROM DEFENCE PARIS, September 7. Two noted criminal lawyers, M. Henri Torres and M. Mottogia Ferri, have been refused permission to defend Ernest Torgler on a charge of setting fire fo the Reichstag. They intend to deliver broadcast speeches in defence from Paris simultaneously with the trial at Leipzig on September 21.
