INDIAN COTTON MILLS CLOSE
JAPANESE COMPETITION BLAMED CALCUTTA, September 7. Four more cotton mills have been closed in Bombay because of Japanese competition, making 10 since April. This has thrown out of employment 15,000 operatives. The Legislative Assembly passed the Cotton Textiles Protection Bill, which continues in operation the tariffs against Japanese dumping of cotton goods, pending the outcome of the discussions which will be begun in a few days between representatives of the two Governments.
