ST. SAVIOUR'S MARKET.
MEETING OF STALLHOLDERS. Mr C. E. Jones presided yesterday afternoon at a meeting of the stallholders at St. Saviour's market, which will be held in the Caledonian Hall at the end of October. The stallholders all reported satisfactory progress. Many had arranged and were arranging money-making entertainments in aid of the funds of their stalls. AI bring-and-buy sale, organised by the Cashmere ladies and held on a wet day, realised a profit of £l7. A monster bridge party will be held in race week in aid of the tea stall, a dance will be held by the Cashmere ladies at Cashmere House early in September, and many other parties are being arranged. It was decided to recommend to the programme committee that it should arrange exhibitions of folk dancing by pupils of the Girls' High School, West District High School, and Technical College, to be held in the evenings at the market. Mr Jones made an eloquent appeal for support for the radio concert, which is to be held on August 2, and for the street appeal on August 11. Mr Gibbs said that 15,000 envelopes had been distributed amongst listeners-in to the concert. Arrangements for the street collection were well advanced, Mr Jones said. "We are asking the public to help to equip these orphan children, on whose shoulders will fall the responsibility of rebuilding the social structure in the future, and we know we will not ask in vain," said Mr Jones. It was decided that the next meeting should be held on Friday, September 1.
