ANM'AL STAFF DANCE. Yesterday was a red-letter occasion for members of the staff of Messrs Pyne, Gould, Guinncss's various offices throughout Canterbury. Once a year, representatives of the firm's branches in Timaru, Geraldine, and Ashburton, and of the many agencies in different parts of the province meet in Christchurch, and, with the staff of the central office, enjoy an organised holiday programme, terminating with a dance in the evening. This year's holiday was observed yesterday, when, amongst other amuse- ■ ments, a golf match, Stock department' versus The Rest, was played at the ■ Shirley links, an innovation this year) being Ihe inclusion of four ladies in the competing teams. Luncheon was served at the clubhouse at Shirley, and. in the evening, the vanquished and the vanquishers, with many fi lends attended a very enjoyable dance at Frascati. Music was supplied bv Bradford's orchestra, and snowballs, amusing novelties, and picturesque paper hats were distributed. Amongst the guests were Mr James Maling, "Mr and Mrs F. M. Warren, Mrs Charles Reid, Miss Phyllis Boyle, Mr and Mrs James Morrison, Mr and Mrs Derrick Gould, and Mr R. J. Shallcrass (Timaru). Mrs Reid wore a frock and coatee of nutmeg brown angel-skin lace; Mrs Warren wore a dress of black lace and black faille, and a black and gold brocaded coatee; Mrs Morrison's frock of black souple satin had yoke and sleeves of black lace and a large red rose on the shoulder; Miss Boyle's frock was of brown ninon, patterned with shaded pink roses in small design; Mrs Derrick Gould wore a frock of pervenche blue crinkle crepe. i The members of the committee were Miss N. Hall, Miss B. Strachan, Mr George Francis, Mr L. E. Owen, and Mr W. H. Fenner (honorary secretary). Miss Hall wore a frock, of cyclamen shot tal'j'cui with large epaulets of cyclamen organdi; Miss Strachan's frock was of hyacinth blue lace. Other ladies present were Mcsdames Endcll Wanklyn, L. F.
