Barlow's Buildings, with intent to commit a crime; breaking and entering the counting-house of Barlow Brothers, Ltd., with intent to commit a crime; breaking and entering by day the dwelling of Alice Rivers, 85 Mandeville street, and theft; breaking and entering by day the dwelling of Clarence Leslie Rhodes, 81 Totara street, and theft: breaking and entering by day the dwelling of Grace Pearson, 57A Carlton Mill road, and theft; breaking and entering by day the dwelling of Clement Waldron Coles, 15 Beverley street, and theft; breaking and entering by day the dwelling of Allan Leslie Woods, 144 Chapter street, and theft; breaking and entering by day the dwelling of Thomas James Thompson, 14 Kotare street, and theft; attempting to break and enter the shop of Watsons, Ltd., 695 Colombo street, with intent to commit a crime therein; breaking and entering by day the dwelling of Hubert Henderson, 10(3 Papanui road, and theft; breaking and entering by day the dwelling of Ernest Chafley, 35 Carlton Mill road, and theft; breaking and entering by day the dwelling of Elizabeth Benjamin, 10 College avenue, with intent to commit a crime therein: breaking and enetring by day the dwelling of Harry Ranskill Best, 28 Circuit street, and theft; breaking and entering the shop of Arnold Whitworth, Barlow's Buildings, and theft; breaking and entering by day the dwelling of Kenneth Riccarton Mcllroy, 24 Malvern street, and theft; breaking and entering by day the dwelling of Frederick John Needham. 21 Merivale lane, and theft; breaking and entering by day the dwelling of Thomas George, 21 Gloucester street, and theft; breaking and entering by day the dwelling of Vera Isabel McCullough. 41 Matai street, and theft; breaking and entering the dwelling of William Gordon Coull, 184 Fendalton road, and theft; breaking and entering by day the dwelling of Muriel Vivienne Jones, 60 Worcester street, and theft. A large number of witnesses gave evidence of the loss of property or of their residences being broken into. In a number of cases there was no indication of the method used to gain entry to the premises. In one case jewellery to the value of £9l was stolen. Evidence was also given of attempts to break open the safe of Barlow Brothers and to gain entry to the shop of Watsons, Ltd., by means of explosives. Detective J. C. C. Edwards produced statements by the accused in which he admitted the offences. The accused pleaded guilty to all the charges and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. A summary charge of the theft of a handdrill and pair of bolt cutters, to a total value of £ 1 7s (id, the property of James Percy Drevvitt, was adjourned sine die. Bait was refused. CIVIL CASES.
